Community

I finally found this on Youtube. This is the example of ironic humor I was talking about in class. The rat is named after the character Fievel from An American Tail and the song is from the movie. Enjoy.

    I'm not sure I would call this ironic humor (partly because I don't know what irony is anymore) but rather cultural meta-awareness performed with respect and a wink as homage, like the "Dual Spires" episode of Psyched or like a bluegrass version of a rap song or a string quartet playing Kraftwerk. They all share a disorienting transcontextualization (that we felt when we ran into our second-grade teacher at the grocery store) that can be explained by employing Manovich's analog-to-digital transcoding as cultural transcoding and finding significance in the difference (différance).
